Do you have teeth that have been eroded from injury or decay to the point that they've lost normal function along with their esthetic appearance? Dental crowns are a lasting solution for troubled teeth like these, restoring them by using a dental covering that is Crownscustomized to fit atop what's left of your tooth.

At the office of Stephanie Wong, DMD, achieving perfect crowns for your teeth offers even greater convenience. In the past, most of the crown creation process took place in dental labs - but today, CEREC One Visit crowns are being created right at Dr. Wong's office!

Creation Technology Of Same-Day Crowns

How does Dr. Wong do it? Using advanced dental technology called Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM), her dental technicians on site create laboratory-quality crowns in just a few minutes. Take a look at some of the specific time-saving benefits of same-day crowns compared with traditional crowns below:

Traditional Crowns

  • Takes at least two or three dentist visits before your permanent crowns are placed
  • Takes at least that many weeks (two or three), because between each visit usually lies a few days
  • Each dentist visit takes time from your day that could be spent doing something else

Same-Day Crowns

  • Takes one trip to the dentist that only lasts a few minutes
  • Restores tooth function just as well as traditional crowns
  • Brings an incredibly realistic appearance to your teeth so no one can tell you've had a tooth restoration

The Innovation Of CAM/CAD

Traditional crowns require taking an impression of your teeth first to create your crowns at a dental lab later. But the technology used in same-day crowns simply applies reflective powder to your teeth before a small scanning device takes digital images of your dental structures, allowing a 3-D model of your teeth to be constructed immediately.

At the same time, the CAD/CAM software will be creating your crown as you wait, using the material that most closely resembles the exact color, shape, and overall appearance of your natural teeth. Using this digital imaging technique, your customized crown is carved in about five minutes!

The crown is then bonded to your tooth during that same visit. This allows you to avoid needing temporary restorations while you wait for the following visit to get your permanent crowns placed after they've been created during the interim, as is typically the case with traditional crowns.
