Compared to the high-maintenance and sometimes painful metal braces of the past, Invisalign replaces the brackets and wires with a series of clear plastic aligners.Invisalign

Dr. Stephanie Wong, your Honolulu dentist begins your Invisalign treatment by taking a few records of your teeth to optimize each individual plan. She begins with dental x-rays determine the health of the jawbone and the strength of the tooth’s root.

Next is the bite registration, which Dr. Wong will examine to find out just how the upper and lower jaw come together. The patient bites down on a sheet after having fast-setting paste applied to their teeth.

Dental impressions are then taken by having the patient bite down into a tray of putty. This leaves an exact record of the existing placement of the teeth.

The final record needed for Invisalign treatment are photographs. Invisalign’s lab requires eight photographs of the face and jaw from a variety of different angles.

The aligners are then custom-made to fit the needs of each individual’s specific Invisalign plan. Over the span of the next nine to 15 months, the aligners will be swapped out every two weeks. Each new set will be slightly altered to move the teeth further and further into the correct position.

It’s strongly recommended that aligners should be worn around 22 hours per day. However, part of the beauty of Invisalign retainers over metal braces, is they can be removed when eating, brushing one’s teeth, and whenever else is necessary.

The only challenge will be remembering to put the aligners back in when finished. But after seeing the progress, patients are typically excited to get back to straightening out their smile.
